I’ve visited with several couples in the past two weeks who feel like the financial walls are caving in on them.  Serious emotions arise when folks don’t know what to do with the seemingly small amount of money coming into their households.  Debt payments loom and creditors are cranky.  Dave Ramsey often speaks in terms of a fourth grade civics lesson:  build your four walls first.

No matter what:

  • You must eat.
  • You must keep the lights on.
  • You must be able to get to work.
  • You must pay your rent or mortgage payment.

If your mortage is too high, start working out where you will be if you sell your house or the bank forecloses.

Now that you have your four walls built, let’s develop a strategy for getting on the road toward financial peace.
