Moving toward financial health

Easter is such a powerful reminder of the promise of a fresh start. Christians celebrate the resurrection of the living Christ in the midst of other celebrations of new life (bunnies, chicks, flowers!). So many areas of our lives can be realigned, no matter how off track we find ourselves. In money coaching, I often have to remind my clients of the following:

1. We are only writing a budget for this month. Not next month, not a magical perfect month, not for a series of months. Only this month. This month you can do your best with what you have.

2. We are done looking back and will now look forward. We will design a plan that is right and appropriate for a new beginning.

3. The fresh start is just that – a beginning. The process takes TIME and PATIENCE. The journey will see you accomplish many things, but today is only the beginning.

These reminders can be applied to so many areas – healthy diet & exercise, a spiritual practice, a family relationship, a career goal. The promise of Easter can breath life into your new beginning.

A Fresh Start for Me

There are so many ways this transition to 2012 represents a fresh start for me. In June, I joined Petso Financial Consultants in Boise and have been blessed with a wonderful opportunity to learn and grow in the personal finance arena. Dave Petso is a well-known Boise financial adviser and along with his fabulous team, I’ve been mentored through the nitty gritty of helping people manage their money well.

I took a short break from money coaching to focus on my new position, but have since re-started my money coaching business and, at my new office, I’m working with clients again.

One of the most rewarding parts of money coaching is helping people calm their own waters, recognize what steps they CAN take and which have to wait. I love shedding soft light on the truth of a situation in order to help create the solution – and there is ALWAYS a solution. With patience, time and the right commitment, families are walking toward financial peace.

As my husband and I think about our impending empty nest (our youngest is a high school senior and we will MISS him), we are creating bucket lists, enjoying the best years of our careers, making an effort to take good care of ourselves physically and spiritually, and dealing with our commitment to financial health – which can be a struggle as we save for retirement and help our children with college expenses. We are blessed immeasurably and recognize that so many others struggle financially. We were nudged to change our financial future about 12 years ago and thanks to the teachings Dave Ramsey and Larry Burkett, we are in a much better place than we might have been.

We’ve lived it – and I can help you see a different way, too.
